Makeup Rehab: The Current Inventory

So after the makeup decluttering, it’s time to take stock of my current makeup collection and what I am keeping/using. Then I won’t be tempted to impulse buy because it looks pretty or I don’t know if I have a dupe in my collection. After I’ve figured out what I’m definitely keeping in my collection, I’ll know what I’m missing and all of my future makeup purchases will be planned.

Primers: Kat Von D Lock-It Hydrating Primer & NYX Pore Filler. The KVD primer works great for my oily skin, but it doesn’t work so great for preventing foundation from sinking into my pores and giving me cake face. For that solution, I have recently been using the NYX Pore Filler only on those problem areas (around my nose primarily), and it has been a life changer!

Foundations: Kat Von D Lock-It Foundation & Tarte BB Cream. The KVD foundation is my go-to most days when I am doing a full face of makeup; it lasts and gives me complete coverage without breaking me out. And most importantly, it matches my skintone! I use the Tarte BB Cream for the lighter days when I just want a more natural look (aka less acne face for running errands).

Concealer: Tarte Maracuja Creaseless Concealer, NYX HD Concealer, and Kat Von D Lock-It Concealer Creme. I like the Tarte concealer for fuller coverage, and I was using the NYX concealer for a bit as undereye coverage, but it didn’t really brighten my face or conceal my dark circles, so I purchased the KVD Concealer Creme and have been very pleased with my purchase!

Setting powders: Kat Von D Lock-It Powder Foundation, NYX HD Finishing Powder, & e.l.f. HD Powder. The KVD powder foundation is great for extra coverage as well as touch-ups during the day, and of course the famous e.l.f. HD powder is a vital part of my collection. I bought the NYX powder when I was out of the e.l.f. powder and couldn’t find it, and it makes me sneeze, but it’s great for setting the undereye concealer.

Setting spray: Urban Decay All-Nighter Setting Spray. I’ve used it for years and love it. Definitely a Holy Grail product!

Highlight/contour: this is where my products fall a little short. I have the OCC Creme Colour Concentrates in Vice and Trick but I can’t seem to find them sold on the OCC website, so when I use up these creams, I’m going to have to find a new product. For powder, I have Too Faced Candelight Glow, which I’m not thrilled with, and Too Faced Milk Chocolate Soleil Bronzer, which is far too orange-toned for me. I have switched to the NYX Illuminator in Ritualistic, which so far has had enough pigment and shimmer to be my new highlighter.

Blush: e.l.f. Blush Palette, Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Dollface. I was pleasantly surprised with the e.l.f. blush palette; it looked completely different from the packaging, but I was very happy with the colors and versatility of this palette! I’ve had the Tarte blush for some time now and it’s a very subtle bit of color, so I’m using this up with no plans to repurchase.

Brows: ABH Brow Powder Duo, ABH Brow Wiz, ABH Dipbrow Pomade, EWC Brow Powder, & EWC Brow Serum. Clearly I have more than enough brow products! I don’t use the Brow Wiz or EWC Brow Powder as often, but I have more than enough to keep my brows looking good for quite some time to come.

Eye primer: Urban Decay Anti-Aging Eyeshadow Primer Potion. Another long-time love of mine!

Eyeshadow palettes: Too Faced Chocolate Bar, Lorac Pro, Urban Decay Electric, Urban Decay Ammo, Urban Decay Vegan, and SauceBox Cosmetics Etude. I already went into my reasons about keeping these palettes in my previous makeup rehab post on the decluttering. I also have a loose color by OCC in Iced, which is a very white, shimmery color that is great for highlighting or adding a bit of shiny dimension to my eyeshadow. I do not need to purchase any more eyeshadows until I have hit pan on a significant number of these palettes!

Eyeliner: e.l.f. Cream Eyeliner, Kat Von D Tattoo Liner, Wet n Wild Kohl Eyeliner (in black and buff), NYX Matte Black Liner. I love the e.l.f. cream liner and KVD pen liner, and both are used quite often. But I do not like the Wet n Wild or NYX liners; they don’t stay put or they apply oddly. I plan on replacing those kohl liners, which I generally use in the waterline.

Mascara: Pacifica Dream Big. This is the only vegan mascara I own, and while it’s okay, it’s not great; it smudges easily and my lashes look fine with it but I know they could look much better. This is definitely on my “to replace” list, but vegan mascaras seem to be so difficult to find! I’ll be trying Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara and continuing the hunt for a vegan waterproof mascara.

Basically, I have four lip products: OCC Lip Tar Primer and OCC Stained Gloss in Aurora (back when they were in the tubes with brushes), OCC Lip Tar in Lily, and a Urban Decay lipstick in a shade I don’t remember because it has vanished within the depths of my purse.

I have an overflowing handful of products that I will be returning, so once I have returned those products, I plan on “re-investing” into purchasing some much-needed lip products, specifically liquid lipsticks. I plan on trying Dose of Colors, Makeup Monsters, and Lime Crime Velvetines first, and as I decide what to buy, I’ll be purchasing the unique shades that I don’t already have in my (pitiful) collection and would regularly use and wear.
